The goal of our Foundation is to make the community it serves a better place for all residents, placing particular value on activities and programs that expand opportunities for the least advantaged, protecting our environment and enhancing the lives of youth. Since the tribe took the significant step of establishing the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation in 2005, we have worked with hundreds of local groups, organizations, and schools throughout the region. Our elders taught us many important lessons in life, including the spirit of generosity - 'amuyich - that is our tradition.įrom our ancestral roots using bead money as currency, the Chumash tribe has grown immensely, now circulating more than $25 million of contributions in our community. Giving back to the community has always been a distinguishing characteristic of the Chumash.
